What's in the Box |
Complete Packages |
Packages are comprehensive solutions including the M2 Encore adapter, microFollowFocus, microMatteBox, and other Redrock cinema accessories. Packages include everything found in our Bundles plus the microFollowFocus Indie bundle, microLensSupport, microPowerPod, and microWhips. Complete Packages are a great economical solution if you need pretty much everything. Packages already include shim kit, hard mount kit, and the 82-72mm step ring. Check the table below to see if your camera has any additional needed accessories. |
Bundles |
Bundles are our most popular product configurations, and includes the basic components needed to use the M2 Encore adapter. In addition to the M2 Encore adapter itself, Bundles come with the complete rod support system with 18" rods and baseplate, achromat lens, and your lens mount of choice. Any Bundle with "microX" in the title also includes the microX Encore flip accessory for viewing your image "rightside up". |
Individual Products |
If you already own and want to continue using your own rod support system, it may make more sense for you to purchase just the individual items, such as the M2 Encore adapter, lens mount, and achromat. Just make sure your rod support system is long enough and sturdy enough to support the added accessories. |
Accessories |
Double-check the list below to see if you need any additional accessories for your specific camera. |
microX Bundle or Indie Bundle?
- The microX flip accessory correctly orients the image coming into the camera. We recommend the M2/microX Encore bundle for most cameras
- If your camera has built-in flip capabilities, the microX Encore flip accessory is not required. You can purchase the M2 Encore Indie Bundle without the microX flip and use the camera's built in capabilities. Current cameras that have built in flip include the Panasonic HMC150, Panasonic HPX170, JVC HD200, JVC HD250, and JVC GM700.

Recommended Edition
M2/microX Encore Bundle - our bundle that includes the microX Encore flip accessory
M2 Encore Indie Bundle - our Bundle that uses the camera's built-in flip capabilities to enhance the M2 Encore adapter
Shim Kit
The shim kit allows the rods to be adjusted to fit any camera height.
82-72 Step-Down Ring
Enables cameras with larger filter rings to use the Redrock adapter (a common example is the Panasonic HVX-200's 82mm filter ring)
Hard mount kit (optional)
The optional hard mount kit connects the adapter directly to the camera. While not required, it is a preferred approach for the newer generation of cameras (in particular the Panasonic HVX-200, JVC HD100 and 200 series, and the Sony Z1/FX1 cameras)
Other Step-Down Ring
Some cameras may have unusually sized filter lenses, and require a step-ring that Redrock does not currently offer, but can be purchased at adapterrings.com or at any local pro camera shop. The needed ring is coded to help you easily find which ring you need. It is indicated by two numbers, and arrow between them, and "up" or "down". This tells you what type of step ring you need. for example "37->55 up" means you need a 37mm to 55mm step up ring.
Spacer Tube
Some cameras have a longer minimum focusing distance, and require additional space between the camera and the adapter. A simple spacer tube (which can be found here) does a great job.
Camera-Specific Notes
a. The canon XL series DV camera lenses have a bulge at the end of the lens. We recommend using a standard 72mm UV filter between the camera lens and the Redrock achromat so it can be attached without damage to your XL lens.
b. For smaller cameras, the shim kit is used to raise the height of the camera.
c. The HV20/HV30 with the microX requires 3/8" shim beneath the rod support. A 1" spacer tube may be required (there are mixed reports of needing this spacer tube. We recommend starting without one and purchasing the spacer tube only if needed). See below for spacer tube purchase recommendations.
d. For cameras that have a longer minimum focus distance (that is, they can't focus close-up as much as some other cameras)) a 55mm 1" spacer tube is needed, and can be purchased here: http://www.camerafilters.com/detail.aspx?id=788. The spacer tube is inserted between the adapter and the achromat, preferably between the adapter and hardmount kit.
e. The Sony V1 requires a 1/8" shim beneath the camera to raise the camera up.
f. The Sony EX1 and EX3 are now compatible with the M2/microX Encore Bundle.
g. The HPX 170 has a 72mm diameter filter and therefore does not require a step ring. Since the HPX 170 has an electronic "flip" feature built in to the camera, it can be used without the microX flip accessory.
h. bot the HPX170 and HMC150 have an option for in-camera flip (for viewing only, recorded image still needs to be flipped in post). You can also use the microX Encore's achromat combined with a spacer tube to achieve excellent results without use of the microX Encore flip accessory.
